Kenyans are given priority in jobs, and opportunities go to expats if employers can prove that the position cannot be filled locally. Given the growth in the local market, several multinationals such as Google, General Electric and Coca-Cola have opened offices in the country. The sectors drawing foreigners include healthcare, media, education, financial services, hospitality, among others. There are many expats in the region who are involved with multi-governmental organisation.
A vibrant community of persons of Indian origin presently numbered around 80,000 including an estimated 20,000 Indian citizens. Several Kenyans of Indian origin have distinguished themselves as lawyers, judges, doctors and academics.
