India’s containerised exports rose by 6 percent during the first quarter of the calendar year 2019. This was driven by strong demand for refrigerated cargo, engineering and pharmaceuticals sectors, as well as for commodities such as plastic, rubber, textile, vehicles, and vegetables. Such growth has been facilitated by the Central Government’s “Make in India” initiative, which was launched in 2014 to promote the nation’s manufacturing capabilities. Today, India has emerged as a destination for high-margin and premium-quality manufacturing for global consumers, spanning a range of sectors.
