TCS CodeVita was started in 2012 when TCS recognised the potential of computer programming as a competitive sport.

The competition helps talented programmers use their technical skills to achieve peer recognition, financial prizes, and internship opportunities.

These competitions connect the brightest students with companies looking for the best talent.

TCS is one of the world leaders in IT services with its operations spanning several countries across the globe.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been awarded a Guinness World record for organising the ‘world’s largest computer programming competition’. The ninth edition of its TCS CodeVita competition featured the active participation of over 136,000 coders from across 34 countries.

Long before gamification trends entered the professional and educational spaces, TCS recognised the potential of computer programming as a competitive sport which was the inspiration behind creating the TCS CodeVita competition, as reported by Financial Express on May 24. Enabling talented programmers from around the world, the competition provides passionate students with a platform to use their technical skills and abilities to achieve financial support and professional opportunities.

Launched in 2012, TCS CodeVita aims to help engineering and computer science students experience the joy of coding while enhancing their programming capabilities through practical computing objectives. Competitions such as TCS CodeVita are mutually beneficial to both fraternities – the student community looking to secure recognition from peers and potential employers, as well as the many companies interested in identifying the brightest minds within the next generation of engineers.

In 2020, TCS set out to hire 1,500 freshers from college campuses in the US within the first quarter, as more Indian companies looked to expand their overseas operations through their localisation efforts. The US is one of the largest markets for TCS, contributing a significant proportion of the company’s total revenue each quarter. A Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) study from the previous year, titled ‘Indian Roots, American Soil 2020’, looked into the business of 155 companies of Indian origin currently operating within the US. These companies have contributed positively to the country’s growth by creating nearly 125,000 jobs within the US and investing over US$22 billion into the sector. With 20 US states receiving investments worth more than US$100 million each from Indian companies, this number is expected to rise further as Indian companies continue to expand.
