Positive recruitment scenes for freshers driven by strong hiring intent: Report

Employers from the IT sector are displaying the most intent to hire at 65%

Bengaluru had the most employers showing an intent to hire at 68%, followed by Mumbai at 50%, and Delhi at 47%

For getting employed at renowned firms, freshers are also expected to be ready with soft skills besides developing domain-specific expertise

Freshers today are able to get their preferable jobs, thanks to the larger accessibility of automation and technology, according to a statement by TeamLease Edtech.

After analysing the hiring sentiment of 865 companies across 18 industries and 14 locations, it says that the current year has promised new possibilities for entry-level job seekers.

Uptick in hiring intents

India is going to become one of the desired locations for entry-level jobs. More than 59% of the employers are keen on hiring freshers between July to December 2022, which is a 12% increase over the first half of 2022, and a 42% increase over the second half of last year. The rise in numbers is attributed to the arrangement of skilling programs by employers, academia, and industry.

Sectoral outlook

Employers from the IT sector are displaying the most intent to hire at 65%, followed by e-commerce and technology startups at 48%, and telecommunications at 47%. The software product industry has witnessed dramatic growth, due to an increase in exports at 8-10%, and a rise in expenditure to US$ 101.8 billion. Owing to that, the IT sector in India aims to hire 100,000 freshers.    

Demand for freshers in the telecom sector has increased in departments such as the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Cloud Computing, are telecom giants are pumping investments worth INR 3354 crores across India, to expand their centres. 

Top cities for freshers

According to the reports, Bengaluru had the most employers showing an intent to hire at 68%, followed by Mumbai at 50%, and Delhi at 47%. During the first half of this year,  the hiring sentiment of employers in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi stood at 59%, 43%, and 39% respectively. In the second half of 2021, the hiring sentiment for the same cities were at 43%, 31%, and 27%, respectively.

Roles in demand

Across different cities and sectors, roles such as Affiliate Marketing Specialist, Data Scientist, Molecular Biologist, Wellness Specialist, Recruitment Associate, Machine Learning Engineer, Legal Officer, Back End Developer, Media Buyer, Strategy Associate, and User Experience Researcher are experiencing great demand. 

For getting employed at renowned firms, freshers are also expected to have soft skills such as self-confidence, service orientation, adaptability, organization, leadership qualities, creativity, teamwork, communication skills, decision-making, and emotional intelligence, besides having domain-specific skills.

Essential areas of upskilling

In terms of domain-specific skills, Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Digital Marketing and SEO, Biotechnology, Financial Management, Machine Learning, Robotics, Business Analytics, and Product Management will candidates bolster their chances to be employed.
