Addressing the Summit of the Future at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s achievement in lifting 250 million people out of poverty. This milestone, he stated, underscores India’s commitment to sustainable development. Modi emphasised that human welfare, food security, and health security must remain top priorities while driving development initiatives globally.
He called for urgent reforms in global institutions, stressing that such changes are critical for worldwide peace and development. As the world faces evolving challenges, Modi noted that terrorism remains a persistent threat to global security, while cyber, maritime, and space domains are emerging as new arenas of conflict. He urged the global community to take collective action to address these issues, aligning global ambition with meaningful action.
Modi reiterated India’s stance on a human-centric development approach, stressing that “One Earth, One Family, One Future” is not just a slogan but a firm commitment to shared global welfare. India, he noted, is ready to share its successful experiences in poverty alleviation with the Global South, supporting other nations in their development efforts.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for balanced regulation in the use of technology. He advocated for global digital governance that respects sovereignty while fostering collaboration, adding that Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) should serve as a bridge for global progress, not a barrier. India is prepared to share its DPI model with the world for collective benefit.
Reflecting on his leadership, Modi acknowledged that the people of India, in the largest democratic election in history, had entrusted him with a third consecutive term. He reiterated that India’s human-centric approach, focused on sustainable development, remains a guiding principle in its domestic and global efforts.
As the UN approaches its 80th anniversary in 2025, the Summit of the Future holds particular significance. The outcome document—the Pact for the Future—is set to include key initiatives such as the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations. PM Modi is expected to play a prominent role in these global discussions, continuing India’s advocacy for reform and sustainable growth.
