Oman remains a cornerstone of India’s West Asia policy and one of its oldest strategic regional partners.

Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, underscored the strengthening of India-Oman relations in the tourism sector, describing the collaboration as mutually beneficial. Highlighting the influx of Indian tourists, who rank second among visitors to Oman, he noted the country’s growing popularity as a wedding destination in the Indian market.

The minister elaborated on Oman’s tourism strategy, which involves promoting the country in five key Indian cities annually. He said that by leveraging geographical proximity and shared cultural ties, Oman aims to enhance bilateral exchanges and connectivity further.

Al Mahrouqi expressed optimism about the ease of travel between the two nations, stating that no significant obstacles hinder the movement of tourists. “We continue to work together to facilitate seamless exchanges and bolster tourism growth,” he added.

India and Oman’s historical ties, established in 1955, were upgraded to a Strategic Partnership in 2008. The relationship reflects their shared geography, history, and culture, with Oman as a key pillar of India’s West Asia Policy.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Oman’s role as India’s oldest strategic regional partner continues to evolve, fostering closer political and economic cooperation between the two nations. These developments signal a deepening partnership that promises mutual growth and cultural exchange.
