In an effort to create a high-quality Indian Language Learning App and also further Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of celebrating India’s cultural diversity through greater interaction among its constituent parts, MyGov, the citizen engagement platform of the Government of India in partnership with the Department of Higher Education has launched a special Innovation Challenge.
The focus of the challenge is to create an app that will enable people to learn simple sentences or even a working knowledge of any Indian language. In that sense the Innovation Challenge will help create an app that will promote regional language literacy, leading to a better understanding of the country’s cultural diversity.
The evaluation parameters for judging the efficacy of the app will include ease of use, simplicity, Graphical User Interface, gamification features, UI, UX along with high-quality content such that learning any Indian language becomes an enjoyable and simple exercise. At the same time it should also offer an automated way to evaluate and rank learners in different languages with scope for awarding badges based on achievement of certain milestones to the top learners in a particular language.
The Innovation Challenge is open to Indian individuals, startups and companies. MyGov envisions the app to be multi-modular, with the capacity to teach through the written word, voice and video/visuals. App developers can propose multiple interfaces for engagement of learners.
