PM Modi concludes three-day US visit with focus on diplomacy, global reforms

After concluding a three-day diplomatic visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for India. During the visit, PM Modi participated in the QUAD Leaders’ Summit, engaged with the Indian diaspora at the ‘Modi and US’ event, and addressed the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

On the first day of his visit, PM Modi attended the sixth QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. Hosted by US President Joe Biden, the summit also included Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. The leaders collectively endorsed the Quad Wilmington Declaration, affirming the Quad’s role as a “force of global good.”

Following the summit, PM Modi travelled to New York and addressed the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the vibrant community, recognising their contributions and support while sharing highlights from the event.

In a significant bilateral engagement, PM Modi met with Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel, expressing deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people. Further meetings included discussions with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.

PM Modi addressed the 79th United Nations General Assembly’s ‘Summit of the Future’ on Monday. He spoke on various global issues, emphasising the importance of safe and responsible technology use and advocating for reforms in global institutions. Modi highlighted the need for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to act as a bridge, not a barrier, and stressed the urgency of global action matching global ambition in cyber, maritime, and space security.

Additionally, he called for a renewed commitment to global unity, with India championing the concept of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ to protect humanity’s broader interests.

During the visit, PM Modi also participated in a roundtable with leading US technology executives and CEOs. The roundtable, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Engineering, explored future opportunities for collaboration in the fields of technology and innovation.
