Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Japan for a two-day visit during which he will hold summit talks with his counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba. He described the trip as an opportunity to strengthen civilisational bonds and cultural ties between the two nations.
During the visit, taking place from 29 to 30 August, Modi and Ishiba are expected to focus on shaping the next phase of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The Prime Minister said the partnership has recorded steady and significant progress over the past 11 years and now needs new momentum.
He outlined plans to expand the scope and ambition of economic and investment cooperation, while also advancing collaboration in new and emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
From Japan, Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, on 31 August for a two-day visit to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
He expressed confidence that his visits to Japan and China would further India’s national interests and priorities, while contributing to regional and global peace, security, and sustainable development.
