The Government of India has earlier formed ties with Google and Facebook to promote leadership, digital skills, and entrepreneurship.

The Digital India initiative provides impetus towards initiatives that increase digital literacy and impart relevant skills to all users.

A strategic partnership between the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Microsoft has been formed to impart digital skills to 100,000 youth across the country for a period of one year. The partnership will witness the integration of Microsoft Learn, a resource centre, with an e-Skill platform to provide learners with curated learning opportunities and resources that will equip them with relevant digital skills and competencies. As part of Microsoft’s global skilling initiative, the course material will include modules on cloud computing and AI in addition to providing avenues for upskilling.

Additionally, the platform will connect learners with roles that are in great demand. Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, remarked on the partnership, “The digital transformation of India is driving demand for tech-enabled jobs across every industry and with it the need for digital skills. We are deeply invested in creating a digital skills ecosystem that prepares India’s workforce for jobs of the future. Our partnership with NSDC is a strong step in that direction, equipping learners with easily accessible tools and resources needed to succeed in a digital economy.”

The Digital India initiative launched by the Prime Minister of India focuses on the digital empowerment of Indian citizens as part of its three-point mandate. Digital empowerment, according to the initiative, can be actualized through universally available digital resources in multiple languages. Under the aegis of digital empowerment, several ministries have taken on partnerships with international organizations to promote digital literacy and empower local businesses.

Through the recent GOAL (Going Online As Leaders) partnership with Facebook, tribal youths across the country are being empowered to acquaint themselves with digital tools and educate themselves with the best particles in conducting business and reaching global markets. Additionally, the Skilling for Developers Program and Digital Unlocked Initiative by Google are similar initiatives that lend a hand in improving digital literacy and competency in India.
