India’s top four Information Technology (IT) companies have hired over 105,000 freshers during the first six months of FY23, up by 8.2% from the same period in FY22, according to media reports. Last year, they onboarded about 97,000 freshers.

Due to a looming global economic uncertainty, companies are planning to double down on training programs for their existing employees to improve their utilization levels.

Last year, IT majors have hired over 230,000 freshers. In FY23, the country’s top four IT companies (Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, and HCL) are expected to hire 157,000 freshers by March, next year.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has increased its fresher hiring guidance from 40,0000 to 47,000. The company has added 35,000 freshers in the last two quarters and has invested in talent development for existing employees alongside hiring.

According to the reports, Infosys has already onboarded 40,000 freshers and plans to recruit 50,000 more by the end of 2022. Wipro, on the other hand, plans to onboard 30,0000 freshers this year and has already onboarded 14,000 freshers in FY23. Additionally, HCL plans to recruit 30,000 freshers this year, with 16,000 already onboard.

Implications
Despite the ongoing hiring freezes by IT majors, they are parallelly recruiting at a healthy pace. Also, by upskilling/reskilling employees, the companies are making their workflows future-proof.
