The government aims to promote tourism in participating countries during India's presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)
The number of international tourists visiting India has reached 75% of the pre-pandemic level of 2019 and is expected to surpass it by December of this year, according to Union Tourism minister GK Reddy at the SATTE travel expo.
According to Reddy, India’s domestic tourism has the potential to be the leading tourist destination among all countries. He went on to say that the government is promoting domestic tourism by supporting startups and multinational companies and that events like SATTE will give a strong boost to the industry.
Reddy also highlighted that India’s G20 presidency this year provides an opportunity to promote its tourism sector. He further added that the government aims to promote tourism in participating countries during India’s presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
The 30th edition of SATTE, organized by Informa Markets, is supported by the tourism ministry and state tourism boards. Officials noted that this year’s SATTE will serve as a major forum for discussions on reviving the national and international travel industry after the Covid-19 pandemic. The three-day event, taking place from February 9th to 11th, has the theme of “inclusive and sustainable tourism”.
