India’s defence exports grow by 334%: Govt

Over 75 nations are receiving the country’s defence products

India’s defence exports have grown by 334% in the last five years, with over 75 nations receiving the country’s defence products, according to a report from the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

According to the report, India also commissioned its first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, in Kochi during the period. Other than maritime projects, the country has also witnessed achievements in its air force. A few of these include the commissioning of the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk-III squadron for the Indian Coastguard, and the successful testing of Agni P, the new generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile.

The thirteen-helicopter squadron has flown for more than 1200 hours since its induction and also completed many operations such as the night SAR mission conducted off the Diu coast. Four of ALH MK III are placed at Porbandar.

Experts said that regardless of India primarily being an importer of defence products for the last 75 years, the government is making efforts to make the country India one of the top five defence producers and exporters in the world.
