India ranks third in terms of self-made billionaires: Report

The 2023 Hurun Global Rich List report highlights that the representation of Indians in the list has been increasing consistently over the last five years

There are 105 self-made billionaires in India

Currently, India accounts for 8% of the total global billionaire population

Five years ago, India accounted for 4.9% of the total global billionaire population

The number of self-made billionaires has been increasing, from 69% over the last five years

India has secured the third position in terms of the number of self-made billionaires, with a total of 105 billionaires on the list, according to the 2023 Hurun Global Rich List. These 105 billionaires have a combined wealth of US$ 381 billion, as per the report.

Furthermore, the report highlights that the representation of Indians in the list has been increasing consistently over the last five years. Currently, India accounts for 8% of the total global billionaire population, as compared to 4.9% five years ago. The list reveals that 70% of the billionaires on the list are self-made, while 30% belong to the inherited category. India has 57%, self-made billionaires.

The report also mentions that the number of self-made billionaires has been increasing, from 69% over the last five years. Additionally, the report notes that some who inherited their wealth have grown it aggressively, such as Bernard Arnault who turned US$ 15 million into US$ 200 billion, and Mukesh Ambani of Reliance who inherited US$ 10 billion and grew it to almost US$ 100 billion in 20 years.
