India plans to enrol half a million international students by 2047, according to Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, During the 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit.
As part of NITI Aayog’s vision document for 2047, Subrahmanyam highlighted education’s distinct role, outlining the objective to position India as a global education provider. He underscored the need to enhance quality, elevate brand value, and secure international recognition through improved rankings.
The CEO advocated the establishment of more education cities in India and called upon the private sector to expand the higher education ecosystem. He urged them to attract international students to India while encouraging domestic students to pursue education.
In addressing the evolving landscape of higher education, Subrahmanyam stressed the importance of innovation, advocating for a revamped educational system that ensures students are well-prepared for the demands of the industry.
He further mentioned that technology is poised to revolutionise the higher education sector in India, emphasising the imperative for universities to embrace artificial intelligence wholeheartedly. Subrahmanyam also highlighted the pivotal role universities will play in shaping students’ thought processes, asserting that the next 25 years present a window of opportunity for Indian educational institutions to harness the potential of the country’s demographic dividend.
