India has taken new initiatives to support its climate targets according to Union minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav while delivering India’s national statement at the COP27 meeting. These initiatives promote the usage of renewable energy, e-mobility, ethanol-blended fuels and green hydrogen as an alternate energy source.

Media reports said that the minister submitted the country’s long-term low-emissions growth strategy, which also indicates low carbon pathways in India’s key economic sectors. Additionally, India updated its Nationally Determined Contributions in August 2022 to increase the country’s ambition for its 2030 climate targets.

According to the reports, India is seeking strong international cooperation through action and solutions-oriented coalitions like the Coalition of Disaster Resilience Infrastructure and the International Solar Alliance.

The minister said that despite contributing less than 4% of the world’s cumulative emissions, India is taking stringent efforts to curb them. Also, the country will assume the G-20 presidency with the motto ‘One earth, One family, One future’.

With schemes such as FAME that have accelerated the adoption of electric vehicles in the country, India is nearing its climate goals in time.
