India’s High Commissioner to Canada met the Speaker of the House of Commons to discuss ways to advance parliamentary engagement between the two countries, and to exchange views on shared democratic values and future cooperation. India will host a Canadian parliamentary delegation in January, led by Speaker Francis Scarpaleggia, at the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Commonwealth Countries.
In a post on X, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said that High Commissioner Dinesh K. Patnaik met with Speaker Scarpaleggia to discuss deeper parliamentary ties and expressed India’s intention to host the delegation in New Delhi next month.
On Wednesday, Patnaik also met Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Lena Metlege Diab for discussions centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation. Their meeting covered immigration procedures, student-related issues, and efforts to build a clearer understanding of each country’s administrative systems. The High Commission said the conversation placed particular emphasis on expanding people-to-people connections.
