External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, addressing the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention, stressed the increasing importance of the Indian diaspora in shaping India’s global aspirations. He pointed out that as India strives to build a “global workforce,” the diaspora remains pivotal in fostering two-way flows of technology, resources, trade, and investment.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Jaishankar assured the diaspora of strong support, noting that the Modi government has consistently prioritised their welfare. Significant advancements have been made in simplifying passport services, improving consular assistance, and leveraging digital technologies for diaspora connectivity and grievance redressal.
The minister also highlighted Odisha’s hosting of the convention as a reflection of the government’s Purvodaya policy, emphasising the state’s historical and cultural richness. Odisha’s Bali Yatra was linked to the broader vision of India’s Act East Policy, underscoring the state’s contribution to the nation’s Indo-Pacific outlook.
Encouraging the diaspora to uphold India’s heritage and traditions, Jaishankar pointed to the coexistence of modernisation and inclusivity in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation. He called on every individual to play a role in realising the vision of “Viksit Bharat,” where tradition seamlessly merges with technological advancement.
This message of confidence, inclusivity, and progress highlights the vital role of the Indian diaspora in shaping India’s present and future on the global stage.
