Employment Opportunities

*Information subject to changes amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

As the largest economy in the world with lot of opportunities, the United States is an incredibly popular immigration destination. The American economy is comprised of many different industries that are largely driven by regional location. East Coast cities, such as New York and Boston, are strong financial players, the Midwest heartland lays claim to sectors relating to agriculture and natural resources, and the West Coast metropolises, such as Los Angeles and Seattle, are famous for technology and entertainment development. Production and manufacturing contracts are increasingly being outsourced to smaller economies overseas, and Americans are becoming more focused on service jobs. There are more job openings than job seekers for the last 17 months on September 2019.

Indian Expats in the USA form part of the country’s skilled workforce. American companies can apply for foreign workers, if they can clearly show lack of qualified American citizens available to carry out the job required.

The 3-million strong Indian American community is an important ethnic group in the U.S., accounting for about 1% of the total population in the country. It is the 3rd largest Asian ethnic group in the US, after the Chinese and the Filipinos. The Indian American community enjoys great reputation and significant influence on the American society and polity with its large number of professionals, business entrepreneurs and educationists marking their positive presence on the national scene. Almost 40% of all Indians in the United States have a master’s, doctorate or other professional degree, which is about five times the national average. In addition, about 1.28 million Indians reside in the United States as Green Card holders, temporary workers, students, etc.
