Mexico boasts of a friendly attitude towards expats, an unrivaled climate, and a noticeably low cost of living. World Bank analysts have predicted that Mexico’s economy will be the fifth largest by 2050. The majority of jobs are in the capital, Mexico City, which is the base for most international companies and large Mexican companies, but you may also find work in Guadalajara, Puebla, Monterrey, Juárez or León. The country’s GDP still mainly depends on oil, tourism and foreign-currency remissions from Mexicans working abroad. However, the opening-up of Mexico’s economy is also creating a demand for experienced workers in engineering, communication and technical sectors. The Indian community (PIOs/NRIs) in Mexico is around 9,600 with about one fifth of them in Mexico City, and the rest spread in Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cuernavaca, Queretaro, etc. The bulk is formed by IT professionals working for TCS, Infosys and WIPRO. Others comprise executives of Indian and international companies, academics and some businessmen mostly in textile and garment business.

You need to have a job offer or work contract from a company registered in Mexico to apply for a work permit.

The company has to apply for the work permit with the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM)

You can stay in Mexico on a tourist visa until you get your visa in the Mexican consulate of your home country

Once the application is accepted, the INM will process the case and make a decision within 20 days.

If the application is approved by the INM you will have to go to your Mexican consulate and pass an interview to collect your work permit
