President Tran Dai Quang was accompanied by a high-level official delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, leaders of many ministries, provinces and a large business delegation.
The state visit, at the invitation of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, included high-level delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, among other leaders.
Last year, the countries had celebrated Year of Friendship 2017 to mark the forty-fifth anniversary of diplomatic relations and tenth anniversary of the Strategic Partnership; PM Modi had visited Vietnam in 2016.
India and Vietnam are aiming to achieve trade of US$15 billion by 2020; Both Governments urged have leaders of business and industry of both countries to explore new trade and investment opportunities.
India and Vietnam bilateral relations have entered a new dimension following the state visit of Tran Dai Quang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to New delhi over March 2-4, 2018. President Tran Dai Quang was accompanied by a high-level official delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, leaders of many ministries, provinces and a large business delegation. The visit, at the invitation of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, included delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, among other leaders. Following the talks, President Quang and PM Modi exchanged agreements related to cooperation in atomic energy, trade, agriculture and fishery, among others.
President Quang also addressed the Vietnam-India Business Forum and held discussions with several prominent leaders of Indian industry and business spheres. President Quang’s visit comes in the backdrop of PM Modi’s trip to Vietnam in 2016. That trip had elevated India-Vietnam ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Last year, the countries had celebrated Year of Friendship 2017 to mark the forty-fifth anniversary of diplomatic relations and tenth anniversary of the Strategic Partnership. This strengthening of partnership has led to stronger cooperation between both nations’ armed forces, along with enhanced ties in areas of cyber security and combat of terrorism, human and drug trafficking, maritime security, climate change and food security.
Following President Quang’s trip, India and Vietnam have agreed to hold the next Joint Committee Meeting led by the foreign ministers of the two countries in 2018 in order to review the areas of cooperation and the implementation of the Action Plan of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period of 2017-2020. India and Vietnam are aiming to achieve trade target of US$15 billion by 2020. To this effect, both Governments urged leaders of business and industry of both countries to explore new trade and investment opportunities in identified priority areas of cooperation: hydrocarbons, renewable energy, infrastructure, textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and agro-products. Improved ties with Vietnam will aid India’s parleys in its Southeast Asia neighbourhood.
