Six MoUs signed in IT, maritime, MSME, handloom and handicraft sectors
India–Thailand ties elevated to Strategic Partnership
Strong focus on cultural, educational, and business cooperation
BIMSTEC Summit to adopt 'Bangkok Vision 2030'
India and Thailand have elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra oversee the exchange of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in Bangkok. The agreements span cooperation in information technology, maritime affairs, MSMEs, handlooms, handicrafts, and other sectors.
The MoUs were exchanged following bilateral talks between the two leaders, during which they reviewed the full spectrum of India–Thailand ties and discussed ways to inject greater momentum into their partnership. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
In his joint statement, PM Modi emphasised Thailand’s special place in India’s Act East policy and Indo-Pacific vision, adding that a new strategic dialogue between security agencies of both countries will be established to deepen defence and security cooperation.
The two leaders stressed enhanced cultural, tourism, and educational exchanges, particularly between North-East India and Thailand, regions long connected by civilizational links. Mr Modi pointed out that the new agreements would further boost mutual trade and investment and facilitate greater business exchange between the two nations.
PM Modi is in Bangkok for the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, themed “BIMSTEC—Prosperous, Resilient and Open.” The Summit will see the adoption of the Bangkok Vision 2030 and the endorsement of the BIMSTEC Eminent Persons’ Group Report, which will guide the future direction of the regional grouping.
