At a community event in Moscow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Russia as a trusted ally and all-weather friend and announced the opening of two new Indian consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg to enhance travel and trade. During his two-day visit to Russia, Modi praised President Vladimir Putin’s leadership in strengthening the bilateral relationship over the past two decades during his address to the Indian diaspora.
Modi highlighted the enduring friendship between India and Russia, noting that despite harsh Russian winters, the relationship remains warm. He emphasised the mutual trust and respect that form the foundation of this alliance. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra also attended the event.
Modi stressed the need for a confluence-oriented global order rather than one based on influence, citing India’s tradition of valuing confluences. He mentioned the collaborative efforts on the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor and the Ganga-Volga dialogue, illustrating the deepening ties between the two countries.
Discussing his government’s plans for its third term, Modi highlighted India’s transformation and rapid development over the past decade. He described India as self-confident and capable of achieving its goals, a marked change from the pre-2014 era.
Modi reiterated his commitment to making India the world’s third-largest economy, building homes for the poor, and empowering rural women. He also emphasised India’s role in providing aid during global crises and its growing significance in the new multipolar world order.
Modi recalled his multiple visits to Russia and meetings with President Putin, expressing gratitude for Russia’s assistance in evacuating Indian students during the Ukraine conflict. This informal meeting with Putin at the Novo-Ogaryovo residence further strengthened the trust and respect between the two leaders.
