Government to extend textile PLI scheme to garments sector

The current PLI scheme, approved in 2021, is worth INR 10,683 crore and spans five years.

The scheme may soon extend to cover the garments sector as well

Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh announced that the government has approved an INR 10,000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the textiles sector and is now considering extending it to the garments sector. Speaking at the India International Garment Fair (IIGF) organised by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), Singh urged the industry to target US$50 billion in exports in the coming years.

The government initially approved the INR 10,683 crore PLI scheme in 2021, aiming to promote the production of man-made fibre apparel, fabrics, and technical textile products over five years. Singh highlighted the ministry’s efforts to create a roadmap to help India surpass China in the textiles sector.
