The 11th India-Norway Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) were held on May 14, 2024, in New Delhi, laying the groundwork for the forthcoming India-Nordic Summit in Oslo later this year.
Led by Pavan Kapoor, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, and Torgeir Larsen, Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, the discussions underscored the strong partnership between the two nations across multiple sectors.
The discussions were comprehensive, covering a wide range of key areas. These included expanding and diversifying cooperation in the Blue Economy, Renewable Energy, Climate & Environment, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), Green Hydrogen, Solar and Wind Projects, Green Shipping, Fisheries, Water Management, Space Cooperation, Arctic Cooperation, Education, and Culture.
Both delegations celebrated the signing of the India-EFTA TEPA (Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement) in March 2024, anticipating its prompt implementation to enhance bilateral trade and investment.
The India-Norway relationship is a testament to the power of mutual cooperation, with rich political exchanges and extensive institutional mechanisms. Notably, the collaboration in the Blue Economy is a shared endeavour aimed at sustainable development in the marine and maritime sectors, benefiting both nations.
During discussions on UN reforms, particularly in the upcoming Summit of the Future, both sides engaged in productive exchanges on regional and global issues of mutual interest. They agreed to hold the next round of consultations in Oslo at a mutually convenient date, reinforcing their commitment to advancing bilateral ties.
The upcoming India-Nordic Summit, with preliminary discussions already in progress, is eagerly anticipated to deepen engagement and collaboration among Nordic countries. As India and Norway continue to strengthen their partnership, the stage is set for greater synergy and cooperation across various strategic areas.
