During a bilateral joint commission meeting in Seoul, India and South Korea explored avenues for expanding cooperation in emerging technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, and professional mobility. Co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul, the meeting reviewed collaboration in trade, investments, defence, security, science, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

The 10th joint commission meeting, as described by Jaishankar in a post on X, was comprehensive and productive, covering various aspects of the expanded bilateral relationship. Discussions encompassed defence, science and technology, trade, and cultural cooperation. The meeting served as a platform for a thorough review of bilateral cooperation, addressing developments of common interest and concern in the Indo-Pacific region. The two sides shared perspectives on their respective regional visions and strategies.

Jaishankar’s visit to South Korea, part of a two-nation tour including Japan, involved meetings with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Trade Minister Ahn Dukgeun, and the Director of the National Security Office, Chang Ho-jin. He engaged in interactive discussions with heads of Korean think tanks, academics, businesses, and the Indian diaspora in the Republic of Korea, highlighting India’s foreign policy and the potential for strengthening India-South Korea relations.
