Telecom sector to witness 20% growth in hiring in FY24

In addition to this growth, hiring by handset manufacturers during the festive season will also contribute to the expansion of employment opportunities in the sector

October 25, 2023

A primary driver of the surge in hiring is the completion of the 5G service rollout by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel

Handset brands are expected to witness a 15% increase in hiring activity during the ongoing festive season

The launch of 5G services had previously prompted a surge in hiring within the telecom industry in the previous fiscal year

In response to the focus on 5G, equipment vendors such as Ericsson and Samsung have also intensified their hiring efforts

With the imminent completion of the 5G service rollout by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, India’s two leading telecom companies, hiring activity within India’s telecom sector is expected to experience 20% growth overall during the second half of the 2023-24 fiscal year, according to media reports.

In addition to this growth, hiring by handset manufacturers during the festive season will also contribute to the expansion of employment opportunities in the sector. It’s been previously reported that handset brands are expected to witness a 15% increase in hiring activity during the ongoing festive season, with Samsung leading the way in this hiring spree.

Experts said that the launch of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services by both companies is also expected to drive higher recruitment within the sector.

The industry’s focus on expanding fibre infrastructure across the nation will necessitate more on-ground professionals, resulting in an increased workforce for both telecom companies and their vendors.

In response to the focus on 5G, equipment vendors such as Ericsson and Samsung have also intensified their hiring efforts, according to staffing experts.

The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme announced for telecom manufacturing will further contribute to increased hiring in this sector. Government data indicates that the scheme has already generated 17,000 jobs in the telecom manufacturing sector. Experts anticipate a job growth of nearly 50% in this sector over the next 12 months, thanks to the PLI scheme.
