Indian govt signs defence deals worth over INR 36,400 cr

This move is poised to strengthen the country's military capabilities

The Defence Ministry signed a deal with Indian shipyards for the acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels

The ministry also signed contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited for the procurement of 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems

The procurement of the improved Akash Weapon System is worth over INR 8,160 crore

The Indian government has recently signed several defence deals worth over INR 36,400 crores to strengthen the country’s military capabilities. 

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a deal to supply two regiments of the upgraded Akash air defence missile system to the Indian Army, with a third and fourth regiment deal also signed at a cost of over INR 6,000 crores. The new missile system is equipped with an indigenous active Radio Frequency seeker, making it more accurate and effective at high-altitude frontiers.

Additionally, the Defence Ministry signed a deal with Indian shipyards for the acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and six Next Generation Missile Vessels at a cost of INR 19,600 crore. The ships are scheduled to be delivered between September 2026 and March 2027.

The ministry also signed contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited for the procurement of 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems for the Indian Navy for INR 990 crores. Additionally, the government has also invested in an improved Akash Weapon System and 12 Weapon Locating Radars for the Indian Army, respectively. 

The procurement of the improved Akash Weapon System is worth over INR 8,160 crore, while the WLR Swathi (Plains) contract with BEL is worth over INR 990 crore.
