Companies increase campus hiring of women

Companies are hiring women from campuses to make their workplaces more gender diverse

Companies that have been increasing their female workforce include Tata Steel, Vedanta, Axis Bank, Cognizant, HDFC Bank and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC)

Tata Steel’s fresher intake comprises 40-50% of female candidates

HDFC Bank has hired more than 1,100 women from campuses since December 2020

Indian companies are increasing the hiring of women from campuses to make their workplaces more gender diverse, according to media reports. 

As per the reports, this move will give the companies access to a larger, fresh pool of candidates to bring in out-of-the-box thinking and promote a more inclusive and innovative workplace culture. 

Companies that have been increasing their female workforce include Tata Steel, Vedanta, Axis Bank, Cognizant, HDFC Bank and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC). According to the reports, they are hiring more women from the campuses through initiatives such as tie-ups with women’s colleges, more female-friendly policies, and active engagement with campuses.

Tata Steel’s fresher intake comprises 40-50% female candidates, according to the report. For Vedanta, the number stood at 38% last year, and the company aims for 50% female fresher intake this year. Axis bank has allocated 45% of their hires to women last year.

Additionally, HDFC Bank has hired more than 1,100 women from campuses since December 2020, which comprise 38-40% of the company’s campus hires, on average. On top of that, PwC India aims to have at least 40% gender diversity across all teams, as per the report.
