Travel sentiment is at an all-time high on a month-on-month (MoM) basis

International passenger traffic is reaching above 80% of the pre-pandemic levels

India’s domestic tourism sector witnessed a healthy rebound, as demand for domestic air travel and hotel bookings has reached above pre-Covid levels, according to media reports.

About 423,000 domestic passengers travelled in the country by December 26 2022, compared to 420,000 during the same period in pre-Covid times. Additionally, about 435,500 domestic travellers have travelled by December 24, 2022.

Experts said that this is a result of various travel destinations relieving Covid norms. Domestic hotel bookings have recovered more than 100% of pre-pandemic levels. The experts also added that people are opting for longer duration stays in premium properties, enabling them to spend more for luxury stays

Travel sentiment is at an all-time high on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, as travellers’ confidence improve significantly this year as compared to last year. While air traffic is expected to show peak growth in December 2022 and January 2023, demand for travelling by trains and buses is also displaying continuous growth.

Regarding destinations, Kashmir led the race by attracting about 2.3 million tourists in 2022, followed by Goa, Udaipur, Andaman and Nicobar. International passenger traffic, on the other hand, is reaching above 80% of the pre-pandemic levels.

With receding global challenges, an increase in initiatives by international governments to attract more tourists, and domestic States stepping up their tourism campaigns, the travel & hospitality sector will witness a further surge.
