Almost ten million registrations have been witnessed by Udyam, an online portal for the registration of businesses as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), from the government.

According to data from the portal, Udyam currently has more than 96.53 lakh new and/or existing businesses registered as MSMEs. Registrations on the platform crossed the 50,000-mark in nearly 15 months, since the day of its launch.

About 95% (92,22,789) of the total registrations on the portal are currently micro-enterprises, 4% (392,772) of them are small businesses, and 0.39% (38,133) were medium enterprises.

The Udyam portal was launched in 2020 to replace the Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) registration framework.

According to MSME Ministry’s FY21 annual report, UAM registered over 10 million businesses in a span of five years. In May this year, the government extended the validity of UAM registrations up to June 30, 2022, from March 31, 2021.

The National Career Service (NCS), e-Shram, and Aatmanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping (ASEEM), among others, will be integrated with the Udyam database. MSMEs can add numerous operations, such as manufacturing, services, or both, under a single registration site, as opposed to the UAM structure, which required several registrations for different factories.
