Digital transformation has increased job complexity: Survey

At least three out of four employees feel that their job complexity will continue to rise over time as customer demands increase, according to a survey conducted by Savanta, a research firm.

Even though companies continue to take measures to address this issue by incorporating digital solutions, 42% of the 4,000 employees surveyed across the world believe that digital transformation may have increased their job complexity.

Managing information overload, reported by 90% of respondents, navigating internal processes and bureaucracy (89%), managing projects, teams, and people (88%), keeping pace with rapid change (87%), and lack of resources (86%) were among the top factors identified by the survey’s respondents as reasons that are adding complexity to their jobs.

The survey also finds that 56% of the employees feel that the pandemic will make business operations more complex in the coming years. One in three employees think hybrid work arrangements make business more complex, and 38% of the respondents find it challenging to set boundaries between their work and personal lives.

As the pandemic has changed the way businesses operate, employees want their organizations to adapt quicker. . One out of three employees mentioned that their organisation is slow in reacting to digital change. On a similar note, despite presenting complexities of its own, technology still remains the key to making one’s job easier and more effective as 98% of the respondents agree that technology is vital to get their jobs done right. 

About 32% of the respondents believe that the pandemic makes the hiring of the right people difficult, while 61% believe that their organisation finds it difficult to attract talent with the necessary digital skills to do their jobs more efficiently.
