The flight path is planned to be from AIIMS Delhi to Jhajjar, Haryana

The drone corridor has received approval from the Ministry of Aviation, however, a nod from the Delhi Police is being awaited

The introduction of the drone corridor into the mainstream health sector has the potential to completely transform the industry

India is going to get its first drone corridor between AIIMS, Delhi and Jhajjar, Haryana, for transporting blood samples, blood products, and medicines, as a project of AIIMS.

A drone corridor is a flight path that has been designated for the safe and legal operation of drones.

According to experts, the project is an initiative to take advantage of unmanned aviation technology to quickly deliver life-saving medical supplies at the time of need. In case of emergency, the drone corridor can also be used to transport organs, as per media reports. This would make the transportation of medical supplies easier, during the rush hours of traffic.

As per the reports, the drone corridor has received approval from the Ministry of Aviation, however, a nod from the Delhi Police is being awaited.

The supply of key medical facilities through this corridor will take a few minutes, instead of around 1.5 hours taken currently via road.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recently issued a series of recommendations aimed at creating an enabling environment for the use of drones in healthcare. Drones have already been used to distribute Covid-19 vaccines to remote parts of India, last year. The introduction of the drone corridor into the mainstream health sector has the potential to completely transform the industry.
