Apple plans to ramp up production: Report

This move is in response to China’s Covid-norms, which have led to supply chain issues for the technology giant

Apple sees India as the closest thing to the next China in terms of output

Foxconn Technology Group and Wistron Corp have established plants in India to manufacture iPhones, mostly for the domestic market

Apple has recently announced that it has started manufacturing the latest generation of iPhones in India

India produced 3.1% of the world's iPhones last year, and the percentage is expected to rise to 6% to 7% this year

Apple Inc plans to increase the production of its devices in India, in response to Beijing taking strict anti-Covid measures, which has led to a decline in the tech giant’s production in China.    according to media reports. 

The report further says that India and Vietnam, which are already sites of Apple production, are among the countries being seen as an alternative options to China.

Experts claim that more than 90% of Apple products including iPhones, iPads and MacBook laptops are manufactured in China by outside contractors.

Apple sees India as the closest thing to the next China in terms of output, as both of them are similar in population and both offer low cost of labor. 

Apple’s assembling companies Foxconn Technology Group and Wistron Corp, both located in Taiwan, have previously established plants in India to manufacture iPhones, mostly for the domestic market. Apple has recently announced that it has started manufacturing the latest generation of iPhones in India. 

According to current data, India produced 3.1% of the world’s iPhones last year, and the percentage is expected to rise to 6% to 7% this year.
