South Indian Entertainment Industry witnesses 15% growth: CII report

The industry has made significant growth and is currently valued at INR 74,900 crore as per a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

The South Indian industry contributes 35% of the total media and entertainment market share.

The South Indian streaming and digital media market is expected to increase at a CAGR of 25%.

With ‘Metaverse’ making a debut in the entertainment sector, the industry will grow exponentially.

The South Indian film industry is set to grow at a CAGR of 13% amounting to INR 6,000 crores.

The South Indian media and entertainment industry is flourishing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15% after a slump brought about by the pandemic. The industry has made significant growth and is currently valued at INR 74,900 crore as per a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). 

The report titled “Regional is the new National – Way Forward for the South India Media and Entertainment Industry” stated that the South Indian industry contributes 35% of the total media and entertainment market share, and has ensured its continued presence and relevance despite advanced technological developments. 

By the end of 2022, the South Indian streaming and digital media market is expected to increase at a CAGR of 25% and reach a valuation of INR 16,200 crore. In addition, the integration of ‘metaverse’ will also ensure that the industry grows exponentially in the future. The animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC) segment is the fastest-growing at a CAGR of 30% and is expected to contribute to 10% of the overall growth of the South Indian entertainment and media industry by 2030. The South Indian film industry is set to grow at a CAGR of 13% amounting to INR 6,000 crores, while the print industry will amount to INR 9,900 crore by the end of the year.
