There will be 329 million 5G subscribers in India by 2026: Nokia
Nokia estimates there will be 329 million 5G subscribers in India by 2026 while consultancy firm OMDIA has projected that number to reach 369 million
More than 180 operators in over 70 countries have rolled out 5G services and the global 5G subscriber base will reach 1389 million by the end of the year.
India’s 5G revenues are expected to reach US$ 9 billion by 2026 accounting for 37.7% of its total mobile services revenues as per Nokia’s India Mobile Broadband Index 2022. However, India will account for only 1.39% of the global 5G revenues, which is expected to reach US$ 645 billion by the same year. This is because of low tariffs in India, which are the lowest in the world, and the continued prevalence of 4G.
Although the much-delayed commercial 5G rollout in the country is expected by the end of this year, much of it is contingent on whether the 5G spectrum auctions happen on time. As it stands, more than 180 operators in over 70 countries have rolled out 5G services and as per the report, the global 5G subscriber base will reach 1389 million by the end of the year.
As per the Nokia report, there will be 329 million 5G subscribers in India by 2026 while consultancy firm OMDIA has projected that number to reach 369 million, which is 30% of the country’s current number of mobile subscribers. Nokia has kept its estimation conservative due to the growth in data usage. This translates to India accounting for less than 9% of the global 5G subscriber base.
