India’s talent pool of cloud professionals will grow to 1.5 million by 2025, at a CAGR of 24%, according to a report released by NASSCOM on Monday titled- ‘Cloud Skills: Powering India’s Digital DNA’ in association with Draup . This report was released in strategic partnership with TCS and Accenture, which also stated that in 2020 alone, the rate of growth for cloud-related roles was 40% year-on-year with 380,000 job openings.

With its dynamic roadmap towards talent building and skilling, in tandem with various government organisations, education bodies and technology providers, India has the potential to become the world’s 2nd largest cloud talent hub. Today, India ranks third with over 608,000 cloud professionals across all verticals. However, with an increase in the demand for cloud solutions all over the world, the demand for cloud talent has grown accordingly. In 2020, the number of opportunities in cloud computing increased by 40% as compared to 2019 to reach 380000 employment opportunities, the report added.

As stated by NASSCOM President Ms Debjani Ghosh, cloud adoption has seen rapid growth especially during the pandemic, as organisations across the world have moved towards building a hybrid work model. Cloud computing has now shifted from a back-end to front-end technology, enabling access to resources at any given instant. Apart from increased cloud adoption, there has been a rise in India’s SaaS (Software as a service) start-up ecosystem which has added nearly 40,000 cloud professionals with SaaS start-ups in India. It is estimated that the country’s cloud market will grow by 26% year-on-year to a $5.6 billion market by 2022. For India to emerge as a global hub for cloud solutions, it is essential to invest in a concentrated public-private partnership and extensive skilling.
