GoI hosts workshop for foreign civil servants

The event was conducted to disseminate India’s good governance practices to countries that fall under India’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative

The workshop is being organised by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, and the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG).

India has been at the forefront of global cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, supplying essential medicines to more than 120 countries while partnering on scientific R&D.

The conference was attended by 81 foreign civil servants from 16 countries including those from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Kenya, Nepal, Oman, Thailand, Sudan, Uzbekistan.

The workshop also discussed measures to deliver stronger institutions, stronger e-Governance models, digitally-empowered essential services, and improved healthcare.

The Government of India hosted a two-day International Workshop on Good Governance Practices in a Pandemic for foreign civil servants over June 18-19 in New Delhi. The workshop is being organised by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, and the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. Launching the workshop, Union Minister of State for Personnel, PG and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that “Awareness, not Anxiety” was key to fight the global pandemic of COVID-19 with active international collaboration. India has been at the forefront of international cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, supplying essential medicines to more than 120 countries while partnering on scientific R&D. 

Amid the pandemic, India has also set up a COVID-19 Emergency Fund for SAARC member countries with a commitment of US$10 million and raised the issue of international cooperation amid the pandemic at NAM and other multilateral platforms. The conference was attended by 81 foreign civil servants from 16 countries including the chief of staff, Sri Lanka army major general HJS Gunawardena, 19 senior officials of Government from Bangladesh, 11 district administrators from Myanmar, senior officials from Bhutan, Kenya, Morocco, Nepal, Oman, Somalia, Thailand, Tunisia, Tonga, Sudan, and Uzbekistan. The conference reiterated that the roadmap ahead for nations in winning the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic lied in gradually restarting and empowering the economy and strengthening cooperative federalism. 

The workshop also discussed measures to deliver stronger institutions, stronger e-Governance models, digitally-empowered essential services, and improved healthcare. During the nationwide lockdown, India ensured the seamless delivery of varied services with e-Classes, e-Hospitals, e-Nam, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and Bharat Interface for Money. The event was conducted to disseminate India’s good governance practices to countries under India’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative. Under the ITEC and its sister programme, Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme (SCAAP), 161 countries in Asia, Africa, East Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean as well as the Pacific and Small Island countries are invited to share in the Indian developmental experience.
