HCL Technologies Ltd and Cricket Australia have entered a multi-year partnership under which the Indian IT-BPM major will serve as the digital technology partner of the national sports body. HCL said on June 19 that it would help the Australian cricket’s governing body provide digital experience to cricket players, fans, partners, staff, and volunteers around the world. HCL added it would use scale digital methodology to help Cricket Australia better access the cricket community through advanced digital platforms.
Cricket Australia ‘s chief executive Kevin Roberts said that the organisation was connecting with fans and other relevant stakeholders through digital platforms “every minute of the day”, through stories and live match data on cricket.com.au, as well as through the MyCricket platform. He added that the evolution of the sport globally required advancements in technology and the digital landscape. Mr Roberts said that the partnership with HCL will help best manage and utilise the rising traffic on these platforms.
HCL said it would engineer a digital core ecosystem for Cricket Australia through a composable platform that would be modular, auto-scalable, data driven and experience-centric, integrating multiple products and services to enhance the experience. HCL said it would manage and bolster Cricket Australia’s digital products that include Cricket Australia Live App, cricket.com.au, bigbash.com.au, as well as community cricket applications such as MyCricket and community.cricket.com.au that are seeing rising uptake.
The partnership will support real-time, engaging, personalized and unified experiences for the Australian cricket community. The cricket-following community is substantial in Australia, with more than 2 million fans attending cricket matches during the 2018-19 season. Around the world, the sport has a fan base of over 2.5 billion. Cricket Australia has an annual online audience of over 20 million globally and held its position as the No.1 sports destination in Australia with an audience of 2.8 million in January 2019.
Indian IT companies have steadily expanded their clientele among global sports federations. Earlier this year, Tata Communications entered into a partnership with ROKiT Williams Racing, is a British Formula One motor racing team, to serve as the team’s digital transformation partner. Last year, Tech Mahindra has entered into a technological partnership with Jacksonville Jaguars, an American football team. Right now, more than 200 Indian IT firms are serving a growing list of clients in over 80 countries.
