Tata Communications has entered into a partnership with ROKiT Williams Racing, is a British Formula One motor racing team, to serve as the team’s official digital transformation partner, as per a statement on March 13. Under the contract, ROKiT Williams Racing will use Tata’s digital infrastructure to enable real-time data transfer between the pit-lane garage at each Grand Prix and the team’s race factory in the UK. The Indian communications firm has been delivering network, hosting, broadcasting and security services to the F1 space for seven seasons. F1 is considered the highest ranked single-seater auto race.

This infrastructure includes a superfast subsea fibre network that carries around 30 per cent of world’s Internet routes. It powers Internet of Things applications across the globe, supports Tata’s cloud and cyber security services, and enables software defined networking for global businesses. The system will allow ROKiT Williams Racing engineers to share data and insights, and collaborate on race strategy from different parts of the world. The growing capabilities of Indian IT-BPM firms in next-gen technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT) have helped this rise.

Indian IT companies have steadily expanded their clientele among global sports federations. Last year, Tech Mahindra has entered into a technological partnership with Jacksonville Jaguars, a professional American football team. Currently, more than 200 Indian IT-BPM firms are working in over 80 countries, providing services to a third of the Fortune 500 firms. The Indian IT- BPM sector is expected to register a of around 9 per cent in 2018-19. In 2017-18, India’s IT-BPM export was reported at US$129 billion. The industry is expected to report revenue of US$350 billion by 2025, from US$167 billion in 2017-18.
