Delegates from 32 nations participate in CTI-2019

The CTI-2019 discussed issues related to modern urban challenges, affordable housing, skills and human resources in construction sector and new construction technologies and equipment

In order to strengthen the economy, India needs investments worth over US$700 billion by 2022 in infrastructure, covering transportation, power, ports, housing and urban infrastructure

Apart from a national initiative to ensure housing for all by 2022, the Government has taken up a number of projects - Bharatmala Pariyojana, Smart Cities Mission, Sagarmala Programme

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Construction Technology India-2019 Exposition and Conference in New Delhi on March 2. Led by National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) and Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) in association with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the CTI is a biennial event that is touted to become a leading feature in the international event calendar for the construction sector. In its inaugural edition, the event was attended by more than 2,500 delegates from 32 countries. On the occasion, the Global Housing Technology Challenge India (GHTC-India) was launched that seeks to obtain best available innovative construction technologies from across the globe through a unique competitive process.

At the GHTC-India, 54 providers with 32 new technologies from 25 countries including technologies from the USA, Finland, Australia, Spain, France, South Korea, and Italy were evaluated. To drive projects under this initiative, six cities have been identified to locate lighthouse projects to test the latest techniques and technologies – 1. Rajkot (Gujarat) 2. Ranchi (Jharkhand) 3. Indore (Madhya Pradesh) 4. Chennai (Tamil Nadu) 5. Agartala (Tripura) and 6. Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). This is anticipated to encourage innovation in the space. The CTI-2019 also discussed issues related to modern urban challenges, affordable housing, skills and human resources in construction sector as well as setting up of an enabling ecosystem for new construction technologies and equipment manufacturing for housing sector.

On the occasion, PM Modi declared the year, April-2019 to March 2020, as “Construction Technology Year”. In order to strengthen the economy, India needs investments worth over US$700 billion by 2022 in infrastructure, covering transportation, power, ports, housing and urban infrastructure. Driven by policy and regulatory amendments, a bulk of this investment is expected from private and foreign sources. Apart from a national initiative to ensure housing for all by 2022 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the Government has taken up a number of projects to develop and modernise infrastructure through Bharatmala Pariyojana, Smart Cities Mission, Sagarmala Programme, Swachh Bharat Mission, among others. The nations is also building 175 GW of installed renewable capacity.
