Employment during April increased in both industry and services

The manufacturing sector created about three million jobs, and the construction industry added nearly four million staff

About 8.8 million people in India got employed during April ‘22 according to data provided by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). This is one of the biggest expansions in the country’s employment space since the start of the pandemic. 

As per the data, India’s labor force reached 437.2 million in April. In March, this number was was 428.2 million.

The data also mentioned that in FY22, the average monthly increase of the country’s workforce was 0.2 million. 

As per the report, the increase in labor force participation was caused because people belonging to the working-age population were collectively employed at the same time, while they were looking for jobs. 

According to industry experts, employment during April increased in both industry and services. The manufacturing sector created about three million jobs and the construction industry added nearly four million staff.  

The rise of employment amidst industry jobs was largely among the daily wagers and small traders, the data said.
